Apify is a cloud platform for web scraping and automation built around serverless programs it calls Actors. Teams either write their own Actors using Apify's SDKs, or rent one of thousands of ready-made Actors from the Apify Store to pull data from named sites like Google Maps, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. This review covers what's verifiable from the vendor's own site — pricing, plan limits, and features — and says plainly where independent evidence was not available.
| Best for | Developers and data teams that need scheduled, scaled web data extraction |
| Starting price | Free tier ($5/month credit); paid plans from $29/month (Starter) |
| Real cost | Plan price buys platform credit, spent per Compute Unit ($0.20/CU on Free/Starter, down to $0.13/CU on Business) — proxy and SERP usage bill separately on top |
| Setup speed | Minutes to rent and run a Store Actor; longer to build and deploy a custom one |
| Standout feature | Apify Store — a large marketplace of pre-built, rentable scrapers for specific sites |
| Biggest caveat | Cost is usage-based and layered (compute + proxy + storage), so the sticker price is a floor, not a ceiling |
| Third-party rating | Not independently verifiable at time of writing — see note below |
Apify is not a scraper itself so much as a place to run scrapers. The unit of work is an Actor: a containerized program that can crawl a site, parse the results, and hand back structured data. Apify builds and maintains the runtime, storage, scheduling, and marketplace around that unit. Developers who want full control write custom Actors; everyone else can rent an existing one built for a specific target site and skip the engineering work entirely.
For cold-outreach and lead-gen teams, Apify sits upstream of the sending stack: a data source that feeds company, review, or social data into list-building and enrichment workflows elsewhere, not a tool that sends anything itself.
A run starts by picking or building an Actor, then configuring its input — a search term, a list of URLs, a target site's parameters. Apify executes the run on its own compute, streams results into a built-in dataset, and lets you export in JSON, CSV, Excel, or RSS, or push results out through the API, webhooks, or native integrations with Zapier, Make, n8n, Google Sheets, and Slack. Runs can be scheduled with cron expressions for recurring collection, and an MCP server lets AI agents call Actors directly.
Proxies are the other moving part: many Actors need residential, datacenter, or SERP proxies to avoid getting blocked, and those bill separately from the compute credit in every plan.
| Plan | Monthly price | Included credit | Compute rate | RAM / concurrency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $5 | $0.20/CU | 16 GB / 25 runs |
| Starter | $29 | $29 | $0.20/CU | 64 GB / 32 runs |
| Scale | $199 | $199 | $0.16/CU | 256 GB / 128 runs |
| Business | $999 | $999 | $0.13/CU | 512 GB / 256 runs |
The plan price and included credit are the same number by design — you're prepaying for usage at a plan-specific rate, not paying a subscription on top of it. The catch is what isn't in that credit: residential proxies run roughly $7–$8 per GB depending on tier, and SERP queries run about $1.70–$2.50 per 1,000, both billed separately. A Starter plan running a proxy-heavy Google Maps or LinkedIn Actor can burn through its $29 of compute credit and then some in proxy charges within a single sizeable run — the sticker price covers compute time only, not the network access many scrapers depend on.
Apify's pricing, plan limits, and feature list above come directly from its own site and are current as of this writing. What we could not verify is independent third-party sentiment: G2 and Trustpilot both blocked automated access during this research pass, and a Capterra search did not return usable review data. That means this page has no G2/Trustpilot star rating or sourced complaint theme to report — treat any specific rating you see elsewhere as unverified unless it links to a checkable source. We would rather label something unverified than invent a rating.
Pros
Cons
Apify competes in web scraping and data extraction, not inbox infrastructure or email sending, so the comparison set below is scraping and data platforms:
Good fit: developers who want a hosted runtime for custom scrapers instead of managing their own infrastructure; teams that can use an existing Apify Store Actor for a named target site and skip development entirely; AI agent builders who want web data accessible through MCP.
Poor fit: non-technical teams that need a single, predictable monthly bill — the compute-plus-proxy-plus-storage structure takes some usage history to budget accurately; anyone expecting a plan price to be the full cost of a proxy-heavy scraping job; teams that just need one specific data feed and would be better served by a narrower, single-purpose enrichment tool.
