What is Autom?

Autom is infrastructure, not an end-user product: a REST API that takes a search query and returns structured results instead of raw HTML. It positions itself against building an in-house scraper (fighting Google's blocks and CAPTCHAs) and against paying retail for a single-engine SERP tool, by bundling four engines — Google, Bing, Brave, and Perplexity — behind one API and one credit balance.

In a cold-outreach or lead-gen context, tools like this typically sit upstream of list-building: pulling search results to find companies, monitor brand or competitor mentions, or feed enrichment scripts, rather than doing anything with the leads themselves.

How it works

Signup gives 1,000 free requests with no credit card, which is enough to test query formatting and response shape before committing money. From there, requests are billed per call: each successful (HTTP 200) response consumes one credit regardless of which engine it hit, and failed requests aren't charged. The API advertises SDKs for Python, Node.js, and PHP, plus documentation at a separate subdomain we were not able to load directly (it returned an access-denied response during this review, so specific endpoint schemas are unverified beyond what the marketing site describes).

Each paid tier also sets a requests-per-second ceiling — 50 RPS on Starter up to 300 RPS on Ultimate — which matters more than the credit count for anyone doing bursty batch jobs rather than steady drip queries.

The real math to watch: credits are sold in one-time packs valid for a year, not a recurring monthly quota that resets — so unlike a SaaS subscription, unused credits at Starter or Standard don't just vanish at the end of a billing month, but they also don't refill automatically once spent. Budgeting for Autom means estimating annual query volume and buying the matching tier up front, since jumping from Starter to Standard costs $375 more with no proration. The per-request price does scale down meaningfully at volume (a 3.3x cost improvement from Starter to Ultimate), which matters if projected usage is anywhere near the higher tiers.

What we could and couldn't verify

We could confirm, directly from the vendor's site, the pricing tiers, credit structure, RPS limits, and the free-tier offer above. We could not independently verify the advertised 99.9% uptime, the millisecond response-time claim, or the 4.8/5 G2 rating and "1,000+ developers" figure — G2's review pages returned an access-denied response when we tried to load them directly, and a broader search for independent commentary (Reddit threads, comparison posts, complaint threads) turned up nothing substantive at the time of writing. That absence isn't itself evidence of a problem; newer or narrowly-scoped API products often simply haven't accumulated a public review trail yet. It does mean every performance and satisfaction number in Autom's marketing should be read as a vendor claim rather than a confirmed result until you test it against your own query volume.
