Bright Data Review

Bright Data is a web data platform combining proxy networks, scraper APIs, and pre-built datasets for teams collecting public web data at scale.

Bright Data is one of the largest web data infrastructure companies on the market, selling proxies, scraper APIs, and pre-built datasets to teams that need public web data without building and maintaining their own scraping stack. This review covers what's actually on the pricing pages today, where the real costs sit, and what we could and couldn't verify about how customers rate the service.

Verdict at a glance

Best forData teams and developers who need proxy infrastructure, scraper APIs, or pre-built datasets rather than building their own
Starting price$4.00/GB pay-as-you-go for residential proxies (advertised as 50% off); plans start at $499/month
Real costPlan pricing is just the monthly commitment divided by the per-GB rate — there's no volume discount baked into the "included" GB figure
Setup speedProxy and API access is self-serve and fast to start; dataset and enterprise deals go through sales
Standout featureProduct breadth — proxies, scraper API, datasets, and unlocking tools under one account
Biggest caveatAdvertised prices are shown as ongoing 50%-off promotions with no stated expiration; it's unclear what happens to billing after any promo period
Third-party ratingBright Data advertises 4.6/5 on Trustpilot and G2 and 4.8/5 on Capterra on its own site — we could not independently confirm review counts or themes (see below)

What is Bright Data?

Bright Data sells access to the infrastructure underneath web scraping: residential, datacenter, and ISP proxy networks; a Web Scraper API with over a thousand pre-built site-specific scrapers; a Web Unlocker and Scraping Browser for getting past anti-bot defenses; a SERP API for search result data; and a marketplace of pre-collected datasets covering hundreds of domains. The company advertises more than 400 million IPs across 195 countries and a customer base above 20,000. It's less a single tool than a suite — most customers use one or two of these products, not all of them.

How it works

For proxies and APIs, setup is self-serve: create an account, pick a product, and get credentials or an endpoint to point your scraper or automation at. The Web Scraper API goes further — instead of writing a scraper for, say, Amazon product pages, you call a pre-built scraper and get structured JSON back, with proxy rotation and anti-bot bypass handled behind the scenes. Datasets work differently: you request a dataset and it's delivered as a one-time export or a subscription with "smart updates" billing only for new or changed records. Larger volume commitments and custom dataset requests route through sales instead of self-serve checkout.

Bright Data pricing (2026)

PlanMonthly commitmentIncluded volumeEffective rate
Pay As You Go$0None$4.00/GB
Starter$499141 GB$3.50/GB
Professional$999332 GB$3.00/GB
Business$1,999798 GB$2.50/GB

A few things worth flagging that the pricing page doesn't spell out:

  • The "included GB" isn't a discount — divide the monthly price by the per-GB rate and you get the included volume almost exactly. The plans are prepaid commitments at a lower per-GB rate, not bundles with bonus volume.
  • Every listed price is marked as 50% off a stated regular rate ($8, $7, $6, and $5/GB respectively), with no visible end date on the promotion. Budget for the possibility that renewal pricing looks different than the first invoice.
  • Other products bill separately and differently. The Web Scraper API runs roughly $0.75–$1 per 1,000 records (with 5,000 free per month), and datasets start around $0.0025 per record with a $250 minimum order — neither rolls into the proxy plans above, so a team using proxies plus the Scraper API plus a dataset subscription is stacking three separate bills.

What we could and couldn't verify

Bright Data's own site states a 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot and G2 and 4.8/5 on Capterra. We tried to pull the underlying G2 and Trustpilot review pages directly to check review counts and read actual complaint themes, and both blocked automated access; Reddit search was likewise unreachable during this research pass. We won't manufacture sentiment analysis we can't back up, so treat the vendor-stated ratings as a marketing claim, not an independently confirmed number. Given the company's size (20,000+ claimed customers), a large underlying review base is plausible, but we can't state review counts or specific complaint patterns with confidence.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Genuinely broad product line — proxies, scraper API, datasets, and unlocking tools under one account, which cuts down on vendor sprawl for teams that need more than one
  • Large advertised proxy pool (400M+ IPs, 195 countries) and long track record in the category
  • Web Scraper API's 1,233+ pre-built scrapers can remove the need to write and maintain scrapers for major sites
  • Datasets marketplace offers a no-scraping option when a ready-made dataset already covers what you need

Cons

  • Pricing spans multiple products with different units (per-GB, per-record, per-IP), making a true "total cost" hard to estimate without mapping out exactly which products you'll use
  • Every current price is presented as a limited-time 50%-off rate with no stated expiration
  • Enterprise and larger dataset pricing requires a sales conversation rather than transparent self-serve rates
  • Independent review counts and sentiment themes could not be verified at time of writing

Bright Data alternatives

Bright Data competes in a crowded proxy-and-scraping-infrastructure category:

  • Oxylabs — a similarly large proxy network and scraper API provider, often compared head-to-head with Bright Data on enterprise contracts.
  • Smartproxy (Decodo) — a lower-cost residential proxy option aimed at smaller teams and individual developers.
  • Apify — a scraping platform built around a marketplace of pre-built "actors," with a more developer/no-code hybrid workflow.
  • ScraperAPI — a simpler, API-first product focused on proxy rotation and rendering rather than a full product suite.
  • Zyte — an enterprise-focused data extraction company with a longer history in custom scraping and managed services.
  • Octoparse — a no-code desktop/cloud scraper for non-developers who want a visual builder rather than an API.

If you need the widest product range in one account, Bright Data's breadth is a real advantage. If you only need one piece — just proxies, or just a handful of datasets — a narrower, cheaper specialist may cost less.

Who should use Bright Data — and who shouldn't

Good fit: data engineering teams and developers who need reliable proxy infrastructure or pre-built scrapers without running their own anti-bot arms race; businesses that would rather buy a dataset than build a scraping pipeline for a one-off project; teams likely to use more than one Bright Data product, where consolidating under one vendor has real value.

Poor fit: solo developers needing only occasional, small proxy traffic, where the $499+ plans are overkill and the pay-as-you-go rate still beats budget providers on price; anyone who wants one simple flat monthly price, since Bright Data's multi-product, multi-unit billing takes real work to map to a budget; teams uncomfortable with the legal and ethical gray areas of large-scale web scraping generally, which no vendor in this category fully resolves.
